Concert “La Otra Historia Del Violín: A Latin People`s History of Strings”
Puerto Rican-American violinist Skye Soto Steele and his band take us on a musical journey exploring the history of fiddles in Latin American culture.
Far from being confined to the concert hall, the fiddle has played a wide variety of musical roles in indigenous, Afro-Latino, and Hispanic communities since its introduction to the western hemisphere— from popular song to spiritual practice to high-energy dance music.
Across 500 years of culture and history, we see how this technology has evolved and continues to thrive in the hands of Latinx people. Join us to meet another side of this well-known but often misunderstood instrument.
