Concert of Rudy Linka Trio: Album Release

Rudy Linka — guitar

Rudy Royston — drums

Christ van Voorst van Beest — bass

The Rudy Linka Trio showcases dynamic interplay, rooted in groove and a strong sense of melody. Each member contributes a unique and independent voice, creating a cohesive unit almost telepathically connects with the audience.

-----------------------------------------------

Rudy Linka is a world-renowned guitarist. After moving to Sweden in 1980, he pursued studies in classical and jazz guitar and composition. He later received fellowships to study at Berklee College of Music (1985) and The New School in New York City (1986), where he studied under legendary guitarists Jim Hall, John Abercrombie, and John Scofield.

The Philadelphia Inquirer praised Rudy’s “intelligent playing,” while DownBeat Magazine described his style as “Jim Hall meets John Scofield.”

Rudy founded and directed Bohemia JazzFest, a major international music festival annually across Czechia, attracting over 90,000 attendees. He is an endorsed artist for MESA/Boogie, Gibson, and Thomastik-Infeld.

Rudy Royston is a professional drummer and percussionist with over twenty years of experience. He studied classical percussion at the University of Denver and Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Rudy began playing drums in church and credits trumpeter Ron Miles as his greatest influence. Throughout his career, he has performed with many of today’s top jazz musicians, including Javon Jackson, Bill Frisell, Les McCann, David Gilmore, Rudy Linka, JD Allen, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bruce Barth, Don Byron, and Craig Handy.

Chris van Voorst van Beest is an American bassist and composer from Maine, now based in Brooklyn, NY. Renowned as “a double bassist with exceptional improvisational skills” (Erminio Garotta — Sound & Vision), he has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, including Frank Kimbrough, Robert Glasper, Rudy Linka, and Joe Lovano.

Known for his powerful sound and lyrical bass lines, Chris is a prominent voice in New York’s jazz and improvised music scene, leading his trio and composing original music. He is also a versatile collaborator, creating incidental music for dance (Nest, with choreographer Kelly Ashton Todd) and chamber music for books (The Lamplighter).
