Concert “Take Me to the Water”

Take me to the Water — A community picnic/social and music fest at the Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park!

Water traditionally holds symbolic and cultural significance to the African Diaspora, whether it’s life or death, struggles or freedom, birth or spiritual renewal, resistance or empowerment, comfort or joy —Take Me to the Water embraces the cultural symbolism of water through music expressions.

We invite you to join us for a gathering on July 16th at Riverbank State Park for a music concert of African drumming, and Jazz-Blues-Swing music. Bring your blanket or chairs and the day will be perfect for a picnic with family and friends!

This event is FREE. Music enthusiasts. Family-Friendly. Dancing encouraged. Open to the Public.

RSVP is suggested for crowd capacity, but not mandatory.

The afternoon will feature performers from the Harlem community bringing it home!

Los Pleneros 21

Founded in 1983, the intergenerational ensemble of Los Pleneros de la 21 creates infectious sounds combining raw percussion elements of Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena genres with contemporary and urban styles, like son, salsa, jazz, and hip hop. Touring internationally to 200+ cities over the past forty years, the group has received a Grammy Nomination, a National Heritage Fellow award, considerable critical acclaim, and is regarded as NYC’s Bomba and Plena Ambassadors to the World.

Charles Turner & Uptown Swing

Charles’ passion to bring swing and jazz to listeners of all generations and backgrounds proceeds through his new band and project Charles Turner & Uptown Swing. Bringing the Swing and Spirit of Harlem to music lovers and dancers worldwide. Vibrant Swing, Virtuosic Bebop & Vital Blues, The band extends music from the swing era to the present under the umbrella of swing.

A trio whose musical cultural diversity of styles and versatility of these multi-percussionist/ musicians is one of the most dynamic and heart-moving trios I’ve ever had the honor of curating and collaborating with... We are the musical pulse of our ancestor’s voice that still lives within and among us. They call us, to guide and remind us of the state of this world and how the vibration of life of the DRUM still lives and is alive, awaiting the opportunity to awaken us in this modern, present-day 2022.
