Handel’s dramatic choral work “Dixit Dominus”

As an ambitious young star, George Frideric Handel took his first grand tour to Italy, the birthplace of opera. Among the theaters of Venice and villas of Rome, Handel produced brilliant and dynamic music — a goldmine of ideas to which he would return in later works. Join The Choir of Trinity Wall Street with the Trinity Baroque Orchestra on October 29, at 3 pm, in Trinity Church as they present the fruits of Handel’s Roman inspiration, including the dramatic choral work Dixit Dominus. Avi Stein, conductor.

Peerless interpreters of both early and new music, The Choir of Trinity Wall Street has redefined the realm of 21st-century vocal music, breaking new ground with artistry described as “blazing with vigor...a choir from heaven” (The Times, London). This premier ensemble can be heard live, online, and in recordings in performances described as “thrilling” (The New Yorker), “musically top-notch” (The Wall Street Journal), and “simply superb” (The New York Times).

Praised by The New York Times for its “elegantly shaped orchestral sound,” Trinity’s superb period-instrument ensemble, Trinity Baroque Orchestra, has been heard in venues from New York’s Alice Tully Hall to Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall, performing many of the greatest masterpieces of the Baroque repertoire. Many of the orchestra’s members hold faculty positions at distinguished institutions such as Yale, Harvard, Indiana University, and The Juilliard School’s Historical Performance Program.
