Tchaikovsky surely had a great deal of love for Ukraine. He used some Ukrainian folk melodies in some of his pieces, and under his initiative, he encouraged the then Tsar of Russia, Alexander III, to open up an institution for higher education in Kyiv, Ukraine named the Kyiv Conservatory.
The program will start with Souvenir d’un lieu cher, Op.42. Three pieces entitled Méditation (No.1),Scherzo (No.2), and Mélodie (No.3). This will be followed by his Valse-scherzo. The last selection on the program will be his only Concerto for Violin, op. 35 in D Major.
