James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey is extremely proud to produce the James Moody Jazz Scholars Celebration at the Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies Clements Place Jazz. This event for the James Moody Jazz Scholarship recipients from 2015 to present, is produced by The James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey, presented by Jazz House Kids, hosted by the Rutgers University — Newark supported by Gregory Burrus Productions

Saxophonist James Moody

Saxophonist, Flutist, Vocalist, and Educator James Moody was awarded the distinction of being an NEA Jazz Master in 1998 by the National Endowment for the Arts. The National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Fellowships is the self-proclaimed highest honor that the United States bestows upon jazz musicians. In the jazz world, It just doesn’t get better than that.

James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey

James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey, an award that honors the life of Newark native and saxophone giant James Moody. The James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey is an award presented by Linda Moody that is offered annually to an outstanding high school senior. The recipient embodies the qualities expressed by the NEA Jazz Master throughout his life and works—musicianship, creativity, leadership, and community involvement.

Jazz Scholars

In its 8th year, the winners of the James Moody Jazz Scholarship for New Jersey recipients will consist of the James Moody Jazz Scholars led by bandleader Birsa Chatterjee. Past winners are:

Jazz Scholars Band

The band will come together performing a number of standards and some originals.

Clements Place Jazz / Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies

Clements Place is a venue for Jazz and music events in the Rutgers Ruth Bader Ginsburg Hall Building in Newark, New Jersey. It is a very classy cabaret-style venue with a cozy atmosphere. It has very good natural acoustics which means a great sound system, a warm room with an intimate setting, and helpful and friendly staff. This beautifully appointed environment is perfectly suited to a true jazz lover.

Jazz House Kids

Jazz House Kids knows that music creates bonds and builds communities. That’s why everything we do is suffused with jazz. Step into our rehearsal rooms, an in-school program, one of our events, or even our office, and you’ll find music in the air! We put these beliefs into practice in a variety of ways and places: In schools, at our JAZZ HOUSE studio, and within the larger communities where we work, we’ve built circles of enthusiastic students, dedicated staff, first-rate professional teaching artists, supporters, and friends.

Gregory Burrus Productions

Gregory Burrus is a local live music ambassador, event planner, live music ambassador, and community partner who curates, manages, and promotes live music events in the Northern NJ and New York Area. Gregory Burr currently serves on a number of live music boards, and community organizations and writes for local town and statewide news sites.
