Crusell’s life encapsulates the most important period in the popularization of the clarinet. From lowly beginnings as the son of a bookbinder, his fortunes were dramatically changed by the opportunity to serve as a military bandsman. This program showcases the works of Crusell and the teachers who shaped him: Franz Tausch and Jean-Xavier Lefevre.
