Midtown Concerts: Aquitaine

The piccolo violin is brought to the spotlight with contemporary premieres from recently uncovered manuscripts and other unknown works.

  • Eleanor Legault ~ solo violin
  • Jimmy Drancsak & Lydia Becker ~ violins
  • Ryan Cheng ~ viola & viola da gamba
  • Ezra Gans ~ bassoon
  • Allen Maracle ~ violoncello
  • Yunyi Ji ~ harpsichord

With over half of the repertoire written for the piccolo violin declared lost or incomplete, the instrument remains shrouded in mystery. This program aims to bring the piccolo violin to the spotlight by showcasing contemporary premieres from recently uncovered manuscripts, and other unknown works for chamber ensemble and the splendacious piccolo violin.

Aquitaine is a research-based early music ensemble dedicated to uncovering hidden gems of Baroque repertoire and exploring innovative programming. Founded while studying together at The Juilliard School, the ensemble has performed at concerts presented by Silentwoods Collective in community engagement concerts, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Festival dans les Jardins de William Christie, and other partnerships through Juilliard.
