Webinar “Expanding Educational Equity: A New Paradigm to Ensure Literacy for All”

The journey toward educational equity in the United States is inspiring, and often challenging, in our ever-evolving landscape. To better measure our progress, we need a systematic framework that will help us clearly define and move toward educational equity in a purposeful and sustainable way.

Join Kerri Larkin, Senior Education Advisor for Lexia Learning, as she dives into educational equity through a lens of (1) instructional, (2) cultural, and (3) digital equity. When combined with the instructional core model, this novel approach offers a comprehensive and measurable solution with the potential to profoundly impact academic success for all students.

This edLeader Panel is interactive and engaging for educators and leaders, with opportunities to reflect on their personal and professional experiences. Attendees will learn how the instructional core of students, teachers, and content can be supported across the essential elements of equity to sustain meaningful progress. Through a fresh perspective on the Science of Reading, culturally responsive pedagogy, and digital accessibility, educational leaders can ensure “literacy for all” in their schools, districts, and states.

This edLeader Panel will be of interest to PreK-5 school and district leaders, education technology leaders, and educators. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

About the Presenter

Kerri Larkin is a senior education advisor for Lexia Learning. Kerri began her career teaching secondary language arts and special education at Anacostia High School in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), an opportunity she describes as transformative. She went on to prepare and evaluate special education teachers, ultimately leading special education as Deputy Chief for DCPS until March 2021. Students with IEPs made double-digit gains on the NAEP assessment during her tenure, and with her team, used data to illuminate the opportunities for Black, male students throughout the identification, placement, and inclusion processes. She is a passionate anti-racism advocate with an emphasis on meaningful inclusion and systemic change.
