Through invention education, educators encourage students to develop creative problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. From a family of entrepreneurs comes a young man and his older brother who are following their dreams and inspiring the next generation of innovators.

About the Presenters

Ayaan Naqvi is a 14-year-old student in the ninth grade. He is the founder and managing director of awesomeness at Ornament Anchor. Ayaan loves entrepreneurship and being a leader. He is a friendly and caring person who loves his family and two dogs. Ayaan is the student council president of his middle school and has been a part of the student council since third grade. He also loves animals, dinosaurs, and dragons — yup, pretty much all animals! His family can come to him with any animal or prehistoric question and he can answer it for them. Ayaan is also very creative and loves making games with his siblings. From a young age he has always been interested in entrepreneurship and inventing—he is always creating! Additionally, Ayaan loves to play football, swim, and play with his two dogs, Zaraah and Ace. Ayaan and his brother, Mickey, appeared as the featured story in the August Journeys of Innovation featured on the USPTO homepage.

Mika’il (Mickey) Naqvi is a student from Shelton, CT. He is a very friendly and outgoing person, and sometimes a bit of a goofball. Mickey loves to laugh and loves to make people laugh with his unique sense of humor. He does take his work seriously though, and once got high honors seven times in a row. Mickey also loves math and has participated in the MathCON Finals in Chicago. Ever since he was little, Mickey has loved the idea of being an entrepreneur, and since his mom was an entrepreneur once, she inspired and mentored him to be the person he is today! Also, for as long as he can remember, he and his brother were making games of their own. Whether it was an imaginary Pokémon game or an elaborate and strategic card game, they did it all. Mickey is athletic and has always been into football. He loves the strategy of football but enjoys many other sports too.

About the Moderators

Arianna Anderson is a 15-year-old student attending Pathways Academy of Technology and Design. She is a student ambassador alum with a background in leadership, innovating, organizing projects, and coding. Arianna is a two-time National Invention Convention Finalist, and Invention Convention Worldwide Speaker, and was featured on Did I Mention Invention? hosted by Alie Ward. She also had the pleasure to interview at the InventEd Conference. Arianna is an ambitious student pursuing AP and ECE classes who enjoys yoga, reading, and baking. She dreams of graduating from MIT to pursue a career in software development.

Deborah D. Carr is a primary patent examiner with 33 years of experience at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). She received her Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Maryland at the College Park campus in College Park, Maryland, and her Master of Business Management at National Louis University in Chicago, Illinois.

Deborah has served on the board of the Patent and Trademark Office Society. She served as Team Lead in Kids & Chemistry for ten years, an outreach program sponsored by the Patent and Trademark Office Society.

Deborah is currently serving as an education outreach specialist detailee for the Office of Education in the Office of the Chief Communications Officer. Deborah facilitates stakeholder engagement (teachers, administrators, instructional specialists, school districts, educator professional development organizations, local, city, and state governments, community colleges, institutions of higher learning, and other federal agencies) to integrate invention education, innovation, and intellectual property into K-20 schools and learning environments.
