Webinar “Building Comprehension Through Think Alouds Across Grade Levels”

Join this edWebinar to learn how to build students’ comprehension and metacognition. Our focus is on the research-based think-aloud strategy. We will explore the power of thinking aloud, how to plan effective think-alouds and an easy-to-implement process in thinking aloud. By the end of the session, attendees will be ready to apply to think aloud across grade level, text genre, and content areas.

This edWebinar will be of interest to K-12 teachers. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

About the Presenter

Molly Ness, Ph.D. is a former classroom teacher, a reading researcher, and a teacher educator. She holds a doctorate in reading education from the University of Virginia and spent 16 years as an associate professor at Fordham University. With four books and numerous peer-reviewed articles, her research focuses on reading comprehension, teachers’ instructional decisions, and dyslexia. In 2019, Dr. Ness began the End Book Deserts podcast to bring attention to the issues of book access and equity. In 2022, Dr. Ness joined Learning Ally as the vice president of academic content.

About the Moderator

Elizabeth Zwerg serves as Learning Ally’s Community Manager, empowering educators in their journey toward literacy leadership. Elizabeth taught elementary school for seven years in urban, Title 1 schools and is passionate about solving the equity gap in education. She believes strong educator relationships are central to a child’s learning, and addressing the needs of the whole child is the framework in which authentic learning occurs. Elizabeth loves serving and connecting with educators because she knows “no authentic learning occurs without an authentic relationship.”

Elizabeth holds a BA in political science, an MA in conflict resolution, and co-built a large online community dedicated to empowering women to travel solo, and served that group for many years as the volunteer community manager.

When not geeking out with other educator friends about instructional practices, you can find Elizabeth exploring another corner of this vast, beautiful world. Having traveled to over 34 countries, she is passionate about diving deep into other cultures, wandering around markets in foreign lands, and photographing the big night skies in Texas where she lives with her husband, Michael, and German Shepherd, Sienna. Elizabeth enthusiastically grabs onto opportunities to connect with others and nature.
