Webinar “Validation — stepping into the shoes of an adult with cognitive decline”
A person with dementia or cognitive decline can often become confused when going about daily activities.
One of the harder things to navigate when caring is knowing when to correct someone, as doing so can often cause distress.
The Validation Method is a technique and philosophy of dementia care that meets the person with dementia in their reality with empathy and understanding.
In this free SweetPea Care webinar we talk with Vicki de Klerk, Executive Director of the Validation Training Institute, who will share her expert advice and knowledge of validation in elderly care.
Vicki teaches and trains on the validation method, first introduced in the 1970s by Vicki’s mother, the late Naomi Feil.
Feil first proposed that caregivers ‘step into the world of the disoriented’ to understand that there is a reason behind the behavior and use empathy to accompany them in their final stage of life.
Naomi’s work inspired a new generation to take a “person-centered” approach to elderly and dementia care.
Vicki, now head of the non-profit organization, continues her legacy with the same energy and passion that Naomi demonstrated more than 60 years ago.
Vicki will answer questions about Validation, as well as share her own experience of caring for her mother at home as part of a family team.
