Published: January 6, 2024; Author: Julia Sonrisa

 January 10, 2024    03:00 PM-03:50 PM EDT
Webinar “Social Skills Coaching (That Works!) for Teens & Young Adults”

Healthcare providers, parents, and educators will benefit from this lunch-and-learn to become acquainted with the most effective, neurodiversity-affirming intervention for autistic, ADHD, and other neurodivergent youth and their families.

The problem:

  • Providers may not know where to send families for specialized support after a diagnosis
  • Insurance mandates focus on behavioral compliance, rather than development and growth
  • Wait lists for speech therapists and occupational therapists can be prohibitively long
  • The services found in schools are not nearly enough to address communication and social interaction concerns
  • Educators may not be aware of the latest research into autism & the sensory components of the neurotype
  • Time & resource constraints educators face impact their ability to provide support

The outcomes:

  • Lagging social skills impact physical and mental health
  • Mental health struggles due to exclusion and ostracization, lead to greater instances of self-harm and suicidality
  • Neurodivergent individuals face greater rates of bullying in high school and college
  • Autistic and other individuals experience the highest rates of unemployment in our society

The solution:

IRL Social Skills teaches communication, relational, and social skills through a proven-effective curriculum. Our classes are conducted online, with same-age peers. our teens and young adult classes are parent-mediated, while our adult classes adapt the same approach to building skills but focusing on dating and employment relationships.

Our approach is trauma-informed and holistic, incorporating somatic and mindfulness practices for improved self-awareness and self-regulation. The result is overwhelmingly transformative, with all participants reporting improved confidence, clarity, and self-regard.
