Webinar “Connecting Read Alouds to the Science of Reading”

With so much focus on students’ foundational skills, we cannot afford to overlook the unconstrained components of language comprehension. In this edWebinar, author Dr. Molly Ness highlights the research showing the cognitive, linguistic, socio-emotional—and even physiological — benefits of read-aloud.

Despite their solid research basis, 50-70% of teachers do not plan read-aloud! This session overviews a planning protocol for effective read-aloud in PreK-8 in literacy blocks and content-area classrooms. Learning outcomes include:

  • Understand the current trends and data around reading aloud in PreK-8 classrooms
  • Develop an understanding of a three-step planning process for read-alouds
  • Use read-alouds to foster vocabulary development, funds of knowledge, and language comprehension

This edWebinar will be of interest to PreK-8 teachers. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
