Informed by NIST and other reputable standards and frameworks, this easy-to-use tool was created by a coalition of education-focused organizations dedicated to helping schools on their cybersecurity journeys.

About the Presenters

Rod Houpe is the National Director of Business Development for ENA by Zayo. Rod has over 30 years of experience as an IT leader in K-12 and state government. Early in his career, he served as both Deputy CIO and CIO for the Ohio Department of Commerce, leading the department’s strategic IT initiatives. Rod then went on to hold CIO positions at Columbus City Schools, Cleveland Public Library, and most recently Cleveland Metropolitan School District. He has extensive experience creating the technology vision and leading the strategic IT initiatives of multiple large enterprise K-12 organizations. Rod has been an active member of CoSN and the Council of Great City Schools, presenting on best practices and serving on several peer review boards. He has been the recipient of numerous state and national awards, a featured speaker at various IT conferences, and published numerous articles on technology innovation in public education.

Lisa Higgins is the Technology Supervisor for Collierville Schools. Lisa has been teaching and working with technology since 1987 in Ohio, Utah, and Wisconsin. She moved to Tennessee in 2003 and began working for Shelby County Schools in 2004. Lisa has been working in a supervisory capacity in technology for five years. She is a member of TETA, a statewide technology and education organization in Tennessee. Lisa is a CoSN CETL recipient and has completed the CCRE (Certified Cybersecurity Rubric Evaluator) program led by a coalition of education institutions and leaders.

Lisa graduated from the University of Dayton in 1987. She earned a master’s in teacher leadership from Silver Lake College in 2005, and a second master’s in educational leadership from Christian Brothers University in 2009. Lisa enjoys reading, knitting, and being outdoors. She has two children attending the University of Memphis.

Raymond Medina is the Director of Technology for South San Antonio Independent School District with over 20 years of experience. His career spans multiple industries: military, county government, oil and gas, and education. He has held professional positions such as computer technician, network manager, field engineer, division manager, and director. Raymond has a passion for team building and a track record of improving his organizations through innovative strategies and empowering his team to achieve their best work.

Dr. Frankie Jackson worked as the Chief Technology Officer of Cypress Fairbanks ISD in Texas for over eight years and today she works with CTOs, technology leaders, education trustees, and strategic partners of the academic community to build and transform technology leaders, teams, trusted learning environments, ​and K-12 systems and services. Dr. Jackson works on technology leadership projects that shape school system transformation and strategies to provoke significant change and action in the K-12 community. She led the development of the Cybersecurity Rubric for Education and is a strategic partner in the coalition of education partners and districts continuing the work around supporting the cybersecurity needs of K-12 school districts.

About the Moderator

Berj Akian founded ClassLink in 1998. What started as an effort to help one local school with its technology plan became ClassLink. Today, ClassLink serves students and teachers around the world. Berj has been a panelist, presenter, and moderator at hundreds of conferences and webinars with industry experts on various aspects of education technology. His ongoing work with school and industry leaders for almost two decades gives him a front-row seat on technology in the learning process and the use of data to improve learning outcomes. He has authored many articles for industry journals and has judged many education and technology industry and award programs.
