Webinar “Mindsets Leadership Series: The Hard Truth About Thought Leadership in Action”

The many demands of the K-12 school leader include serving as a thought leader. Moving the hearts and minds of their school communities through inspiration and discovery remains elusive for many due to the political realities which surround their work.

For the current school administrator, what are the limitations and expectations of providing authentic thought leadership? What does thought leadership look like given the multiple pressures and ever-expanding duties on school leaders’ to-do lists? Is there room in the day for thought leadership after all the other boxes are checked? And, if we accept the notion that thought leadership matters, how are we training our leaders to undertake this responsibility? This session promises a lively and provocative conversation surrounding how and if school administrators can serve as thought leaders.

This edWebinar will interest K-12 school and district leaders, education technology leaders, and teachers. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

This edWebinar is part one in a three-part series on leadership.

About the Presenters

Dr. Nicole Assisi is an experienced superintendent, principal, and teacher. San Diego Business Journal recognized her as a “40 under 40” leader and finalist for CEO of the Year. Her schools were named among the most innovative in the nation and received a CA Senate Commendation. None of this would have been possible without a great team of educators, which is why she now dedicates her career to supporting school teams to reach new heights. She believes that given the right conditions, any leader can become a transformational leader and any team can thrive. As a professor, Dr. Assisi has worked at the University of Cambridge, the University of California Los Angeles, California State University in Dominguez Hills, and the University of San Diego. In addition to a multitude of teaching and leadership certificates, Dr. Assisi is a Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation and a Professional Certified Behavioral Analyst.

Dr. Kimberly Hendricks-Brown has been an educator for more than 25 years. As a site leader, she focused on eliminating or decreasing academic achievement gaps for all student groups. As a district-level leader, she created partnerships, collaborated with inside and outside leaders, developed accountability structures, and promoted a kindergarten instructional day schedule that ensured that more than 95% of students exited kindergarten ready for first grade. Currently, she is a Principal on Special Assignment in the Community & Family Services Department, where she streamlines data collection and analyzes family engagement data. She holds a doctorate in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, a Master of Science degree in teaching and learning, and an undergraduate degree in public and urban affairs. Dr. Hendricks-Brown is an equity-focused leader who believes education is the equalizer and district and classroom structures must be designed to eliminate inequities and close gaps between all student groups.

Dr. David Samore has been a teacher and administrator of K-12 schools for 35 years in Iowa, Florida, South Carolina, Spain, and Colombia. Dr. Samore served as the Director of Global Leadership and Innovation in Palm Beach County, Florida, and in 2015, was named the Florida Principal of the Year by the NASSP, which highlighted his growth mindset for all students. As Principal, Dr. Samore’s dual language immersion school was recognized twice as the School of the Year for North America by the Embassy of Spain. He was recently honored by King Felipe VI of Spain and conferred the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica.

Dr. Samore is currently a guest lecturer at Universidad Cardenal Cisneros in Madrid, Spain, and is CEO of David Samore & Associates, LLC, a private consulting practice that helps organizations fulfill their highest potential through common sense leadership and purposeful talent discovery. Dr. Samore also serves as an advisor to Mindsets Learning and contributes to Supervisión 21, Spain’s leading educational leadership magazine.
