Webinar “Welcome Our Multilingual Families: Create an Environment of Belonging, Achievement, and Inclusion”

We have a profound opportunity to create new ways to welcome our newcomer families and to empower them to be the very best allies their children have to become high-accomplishing, high-achieving students in our districts. Yet, we often miss this opportunity by focusing on myriad challenges, and not on strengths. From a culture of translation to a culture of transformation, from a culture of inclusion to a culture of belonging, from a culture of deficits to a culture of strengths, we can write a new story together with our families that go well beyond the traditional version of what family engagement means to the power of newcomer families to be profound contributors to our schools and districts.

In this edWebinar, Pam Allyn, Hiba Eid-Khoury, and Annabell Burrell will share fresh strategies for helping parents and caregivers of newcomers to be their very best allies and partners in this journey of student achievement. They will share inspiration and also practical applications around multilingual literature access, strategies for engaging parents and caregivers, and a research-based framework called “The Family Sparks” to organize your year ahead. They are all leaders of Dewey, an innovative program and resource that transforms the landscape of family engagement. Pam is the author of many books for parents, teachers, and education leaders on learning, literacy, and strengths-based education. Annabell and Hiba are multilingual leaders of Dewey and leaders in the workaround centering the strengths of families in building the strengths of children and teens.

Attend this session to learn:

  • How to transform the narrative of newcomers in our districts with a fresh framework of approach
  • How to empower culturally responsive leadership among families and caregivers themselves with a plan of action
  • How to use materials including authentic children’s literature and more to refine the work we do alongside families

This edWebinar will meet the needs of PreK-12 school and district leaders, Title directors, multilingual and EL directors, diversity, equity, and inclusion directors, education technologists, and media specialists. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.
