Webinar “Systems Leadership for Equity: The Education Pipeline | Workforce Development”

In October 2022, ERDI hosted its third Thought Leader Symposium: Systems Leadership for Equity where district and industry leaders came together to collaboratively study ways to strengthen the education pipeline and bolster workforce development. Participants shared best practices and effective partners in each of the following six categories: Pre-Service Efforts; Recruitment; Induction & Onboarding; Professional Development & Culture; Retention & Talent Management; and Succession Planning.

During this edLeader Panel, the participants will share their insights and high-level takeaways from the symposium. This session will interest K-12 teachers and school and district leaders.

About the Presenters

Dr. Steve Joel became Superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools in 2010 and retired in 2022. Prior to his time in Lincoln, he served for ten years as the superintendent in Grand Island, Nebraska, and eight years in Beatrice, Nebraska. A native of Long Island, New York, he has degrees from Doane College, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Kansas State University. He has been honored with a wide variety of awards and distinctions including Nebraska Superintendent of the Year and Excellence in Leadership by the Education Research & Development Institute. He is active in many community clubs and coalitions and serves on a number of boards including the Chamber of Commerce, Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools, Lincoln Community Foundation, The Career Academy, and past president of the United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County Board.

Dr. Joel’s leadership journey has focused on comprehensive solutions to significant school and community issues. The immigration raid in Grand Island led to the formation of a community coalition to begin the arduous process of rebuilding community unity, and the tragic fire that resulted in a complete loss of the Lincoln Public Schools District Office allowed for the construction of a new facility. Lincoln Public Schools has adopted a comprehensive instructional technology plan and developed The Career Academy leading Nebraska into the next phase of K12 education. He also serves as a consultant to school districts and businesses across the country in areas of strategic planning, team building, and superintendent searches.

With over 20 years in education, Dr. Adam Clark began his career as an elementary teacher in the West Contra Costa Unified School District. After becoming an administrator in Contra Costa County, he served as a middle school vice principal, elementary school principal, middle school principal, and high school principal. Once he transitioned into the district office, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative/Student Services for the Liberty Union High School District and as the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services for the Antioch Unified School District.

Dr. Clark has served as the Superintendent of the Vallejo City Unified School District for two years. He is a visionary and innovative leader, crafting an ambitious superintendent’s action plan that aligns district resources to better serve student needs. During his time in Vallejo, he reduced the budget by $18 million, consolidated school sites and worked with stakeholders to pass a $194 million facility bond. Furthermore, he is focused on improving systems to enhance instructional strategies districtwide. Dr. Clark also partnered with the Solano County Office of Education and the California Collaborative for Educational Excellence to support these efforts. Currently, Dr. Clark serves as Superintendent of Mt. Diablo Unified School District in Concord, CA.

Scott Frauenheim has dedicated his career to building positive learning environments for students and educators. As a member of the founding team of Distinctive Schools, he has fostered the development and growth of the network from its inception in 2011. His tenure with Distinctive Schools began in the classroom, and through thoughtful leadership, incredible initiative, and endless creativity, Scott advanced from teacher to dean, dean to the director, director to president, and president to chief executive officer. Scott is recognized as a leader and pioneer of transformational work throughout the education community, operating intentionally to harvest a diverse, healthy, and positive working environment. Scott leverages the strength of Distinctive Schools’ vigorous culture and harnesses the strengths of his team to move the work. Scott’s commitment to a thriving culture, strategic vision, meticulous operations, inspirational leadership, and nimble adaptability have earned him a national reputation for leadership, innovation, and personalized learning.
