Relationships and Sexual Health Webinar (for parents and carers)
HIOW Sexual Health Promotion Team have launched the latest in their line of free webinars to support parents and carers.
Not all Parents/Carers feel confident or knowledgeable when it comes to talking to their children about relationships and sex.
The right sex education equips young people with the tools they need to make mature and well-thought-out decisions in relation to relationships and sex.
Teaching them about sexual health doesn’t encourage them to have sex, but it encourages them to make more informed choices if they choose to be in a relationship and have sex.
In this webinar we will be discussing:
- Who we are and what we do as a Sexual Health Service supporting young people.
- Understanding what young people’s rights are.
- How we respect that — What does safeguarding mean? What does confidentiality mean?
- Services available to young people — What is contraception? The importance of STI screening. What is a healthy relationship? Support with Sexuality and Gender? How does social media have an impact?
- How can we support you to support your young person with their relationships, sexual health and wellbeing?
Young people aren’t always getting the right sex education which then influences how they perceive and talk about sex amongst their peers.
