Join us for the third workshop in our dynamic startup series! This session dives into the world of startup funding and equips you with the skills to pitch to investors effectively.

Agenda:

  • Introduction (10 mins): Get an overview of the funding landscape for startups, with a focus on tech and innovation sectors.
  • Guest Presentations (30 mins): Hear from venture capitalists or angel investors on what they look for in a startup and gain invaluable tips for successful pitching.
  • Breakout Session (30 mins): Participate in mock pitch practice in small groups and receive constructive feedback from experienced startup mentors. Engage in a dialogue with local VCs and angel investors about the dos and don’ts of securing funding.
  • Q&A and Networking (15 mins): Connect with potential investors and fellow founders, and get your burning questions answered.

Citi Medina is the visionary founder and CEO of Equal Space, a groundbreaking share space and incubator facility that catalyzes multicultural business owners to equip them with resources, programming, and a powerful network. Headquartered out of Newark, New Jersey, Equal Space stands as a testament to Medina’s tireless advocacy for diversity and inclusion, offering a nurturing environment for founders of color, LGBTIA+ startups, and women-led ventures.

Medina brings over a decade of expertise in design, strategy, and entrepreneurship to the forefront of his endeavors. His journey began with the creation of MEDINA = CITI, a pioneering design collective whose work has been featured in campaigns such as “Yes, Newark” (a creative campaign for the Amazon HQ2 bid) and PepsiCo’s Kickstart (a sub-brand of Mountain Dew). Most recently, Medina led the creative direction of campaigns for Nely Galan’s New York Times best-selling book, Self Made. Medina was also the creative lead for the branding of BRAVA Investments.

A sought-after speaker, Medina has graced prestigious stages and programs, including The School of The New York Times, BET, The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, Newark Venture Partners, Forbes, VOICES at CES, the Women’s Empowerment Summit, and more. Medina brings his expertise in entrepreneurship, design, and strategy to Rutgers University as a visiting professor. His impactful TEDx Talk, “Just a Boy From Brooklyn,” resonates across diverse audiences, and has earned recognition from esteemed platforms such as the Small Business Administration and Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Push Coalition.

Medina’s dedication to community upliftment is further evidenced by his strategic collaborations with organizations like the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the NJ LGBT Chamber of Commerce. He also lends his expertise to various advisory boards and startups, including Digital Undivided (powered by Prudential), Project Re-neighbor, and Middlesex Grants, catalyzing positive change within the Newark community and beyond.
