Everything to Gain: Starting & Building a Nonprofit Workshop

Hosted by the Director of the Bronx Nonprofit Center, these exclusive events are designed to empower you to establish your own nonprofit organization right away!

Each session can be enjoyed independently, but we highly recommend attending all five sessions for the most comprehensive experience. This series aims to help you grasp the process of setting up a nonprofit organization. You’ll learn about the necessary paperwork to submit, the reasons for creating it, and the initial steps, such as crafting a mission statement, selecting board members, and planning future operations.

SESSION 01: So You Are Thinking About Starting a Nonprofit Organization

During this session, we will have conversations with the participants about their ideas for the nonprofits they want to create. We will discuss why they want to do this, their experience in leadership, including fundraising, whether they have researched the need for such an organization, who the nonprofit will serve, and what they want to achieve.

Coming up — SESSION 02: Nuts & Bolts of Creating a Nonprofit (Saturday, July 13, 2:00 PM)

Coming up — SESSION 03: More Nuts & Bolts of Creating a Nonprofit (Saturday, August 10, 2:00 PM)

Coming up — SESSION 04: Fundraising & Governance (Saturday, September 7, 2024 2:00 PM)

Coming up — SESSION 05: Personnel, Leadership & Planning (Saturday, October 12, 2024, 2:00 PM)

About the workshop series:

Each workshop in the series is an interactive and action-oriented session. It focuses on the fundamental aspects of business development and provides attendees with the knowledge they need to create a strategy for their nonprofit organization.

By attending these workshops, you will gain a better understanding of the process and steps required to start and, more importantly, grow your nonprofit organization.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to help make your nonprofit dreams a reality. Whether you attend just one workshop or all of them, the knowledge and insights you gain will be invaluable in advancing your organization’s goals.

About the presenter:

Eileen Newman is a dynamic leader who has spent her entire career in the nonprofit sector. She is a visionary and a team builder who has a deep passion for helping individuals and teams create and grow nonprofits.

Most recently, Eileen served as the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Bronx Nonprofits. At the Center, she played a crucial role in assisting individuals and teams in establishing nonprofits. She also provided leadership development and capacity-building opportunities through workshops and conferences. Eileen facilitated peer learning networks and offered coaching to executive and middle management leaders.

In addition to her work in the nonprofit sector, Eileen has spent many years in the arts community, focusing on independent film. She has held executive positions at organizations such as the Tribeca Film Institute (now known as Gotham), the National Board of Review, and Film/Video Arts.

Eileen’s love of books and media led her to obtain a Master’s Degree in Library Science. She held various positions in the field, including serving as the Director of the New York City School Library System, the Director of Libraries and Instructional Media at Sewanhaka Central High School, and as a member of the team rebuilding school libraries throughout the city for New Visions for Public Schools and the Library Power Program.

Now, Eileen is thrilled to be working with the New York Public Library System. She is dedicated to encouraging and assisting creators and leaders in building nonprofit organizations that, in her opinion, strengthen communities throughout New York City.
