Directed by Wes Anderson, “The Royal Tenenbaums” is a darkly comedic drama about the dysfunctional Tenenbaum family — former child prodigies whose lives have unraveled in adulthood. Eccentric patriarch Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman), estranged from his family for years, falsely claims he is dying of cancer in a desperate attempt to reconnect with his ex-wife Etheline (Anjelica Huston) and their three troubled children: Chas (Ben Stiller), a financially paranoid widower; Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow), a depressed playwright; and Richie (Luke Wilson), a washed-up tennis pro secretly in love with her. As the family reluctantly reunites under one roof, old wounds resurface, secrets are exposed, and they grapple with regret, forgiveness, and the absurdity of their shared past.
