Thursday Night Movies: “Old Aquaintance” (1943)

Old Acquaintance (1943) is a drama film about the friendship and rivalry between two women writers, Kit Marlowe and Millie Drake. The film is based on a play by John Van Druten and stars Bette Davis and Miriam Hopkins. The film explores the themes of ambition, love, and betrayal, as Kit and Millie face different challenges in their personal and professional lives. The film is famous for a scene where Kit shakes Millie violently, which is reportedly a result of Davis’ resentment towards Hopkins. The film was remade in 1981 as Rich and Famous, with Jacqueline Bisset and Candice Bergen.
