Dreamgirls is a 2006 American musical drama film based on the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name. The film tells the story of a girl group called “The Dreams” and their rise to fame in the 1960s and 1970s, inspired by the history of Motown and The Supremes. The film stars Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé Knowles, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson, Anika Noni Rose, and Danny Glover, and features original and new songs by Henry Krieger and various lyricists. The film was directed and written by Bill Condon, who also adapted the musical for the screen. The film was a critical and commercial success, winning two Academy Awards and three Golden Globes, among other accolades.

Some of the main themes and topics of the film are:

  • The personal and professional lives of the singers, their relationships, conflicts, and aspirations.
