Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) is a comedy-drama film directed by Susan Seidelman and starring Rosanna Arquette, Madonna, and Aidan Quinn. The film tells the story of a bored housewife who becomes fascinated by a free-spirited woman she reads about in the personal ads, and ends up being mistaken for her after a series of mishaps. The film is set in New York City and features a soundtrack by Madonna, who also performs one of her hit songs, “Into the Groove”, in the film. The film was a commercial and critical success, and is considered one of the best films of the 1980s and a cult classic. The film also influenced the fashion and style of the decade, especially among young women who admired Madonna’s look. The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2023.
