2023 WHAM Festival: 9 Muses Portrait Exhibition by Margaret Mendel

A public reception to celebrate the official WHAM exhibition: 9 Muses by Artist-in-Residence Margaret Mendel and live launch of POLYMNIA: Many Expressions of Joy, the digital pop-up art sale by local women artists. Unveiling the original hand-drawn watercolor portraits capturing moments from interviews with the creative leaders behind this year’s 9 selected performances.

Margaret is an award-winning novelist known for Fish Kicker, Pushing Water, and a short story collection, Patches. Many of her short stories have appeared in literary journals, anthologies, and e-zines. She has also written numerous food columns, newspaper articles, and travel pieces. Margaret was born in California and now lives in NYC. She is an avid traveler and photographer who drags her laptop and Nikon with her wherever she goes!

Accessibility Notice:

Please note that there are 8 rather steep steps leading down into the Bernie Wohl Center’s auditorium. While the Center is equipped with a motorized stair lift and assistance for anyone who requires it, individuals do need to transition themselves into and out of the stair lift’s chair.

WHAT IS WHAM?

The annual Women’s History Artist Month (WHAM) performance arts Festival spotlights the Goddard Riverside Community Arts Program’s presented artists and supports the future of our programs, including Performing Arts Conservatory (PAC) the 100% tuition-free professional training in music, dance, and drama for young performers each summer, noted for its excellence and expanding of access to the arts for all families, regardless of financial status.

2023’s theme is “9 Muses” where we recognize 9 women-led projects that propel us into a new dawn through the power of their unique vision and celebrate the women using their dynamic voices to inspire, heal, and encourage our community!

As the ancient Greeks were fond of honor, glory, and prizes, we invite you to track your journey in our Festival Passport Book and receive a stamp for each event you attend. Attendees with the most stamps will win VIP Tickets to GRCAP Season Events and be publicly crowned at our Closing Reception.
