Duo Exhibition “Generations of Art”

Come see two generations of artists showcasing their unique styles and perspectives in our Duo Exhibition “Generations of Art”!

Gallery Makowski invites you to a special exhibition celebrating the artistic legacy of Vladimir Bukiya and his son, Dmitry Bukiya. Two generations connected by craft, curiosity, and a profound devotion to material experimentation. Born in Tbilisi in 1941, Vladimir Bukiya emerged as one of the most versatile monumental artists of the late Soviet and post-Soviet era.

Trained at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts and later based in Moscow, he developed an expansive practice that embraced painting, enamel, sculpture, glass, tapestry, metalwork, and large-scale public commissions. His works range from the Palace of Youth on Lenin Hills to the monumental enamel panel in Gagra. This reflects a relentless pursuit of technical innovation and a deep reverence for Renaissance masters.

A Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, Vladimir Bukiya remained self-challenging, passionate, and endlessly curious throughout his life. His legacy lives on in museum collections across Europe, the United States, Georgia, and beyond. Dmitry Bukiya, born in Moscow in 1966, extends this lineage into the realm of mixed-media painting and Pop Art.

A second-generation artist shaped by his father’s discipline and imagination, Dmitry transforms found fabrics, objects, and paint into richly layered compositions. His work blends nostalgia and contemporary sensibility, turning ordinary materials into explorations of memory, identity, and renewal. Through acrylics, collage, and digital techniques, he creates bold visual narratives that bridge personal history with shared cultural experience.

Together, their works form a dialogue across time, between monumental tradition and Pop experimentation, between inherited craft and individual expression. This exhibition invites viewers into that conversation, celebrating the enduring power of artistic curiosity, intergenerational inspiration, and the beauty found in both mastery and reinvention.

We look forward to welcoming you to this rare presentation of two remarkable artistic voices, united by lineage yet defined by their own distinct visions.
