Concrete Concrete Art Exhibition
Experience the innovative use of concrete as an art medium at Christina Werkmeister’s Concrete Concrete exhibit at Hub17NYC Gallery. Join us for an exploration of artistic expression through concrete, featuring a variety of artworks and interactive workshops for adults and children. Admission is free.
The show features a dynamic mix of paintings, sculptures, and decorative works that push the boundaries of what concrete can be. From rough textures to smooth finishes, Concrete Concrete invites visitors to experience concrete in new and creative ways. Christina Werkmeister, a Staten Island-based artist and designer, brings her extensive background in architecture, interior, and graphic design to this exhibit. Known for her abstract paintings and digital art prints, her art has been showcased in Venice, Basel, Miami, and New York City.
Beyond the artwork itself, the exhibit also highlights several collaborative projects that connect the community and invite participation:
- Solid Kicks Project (Unveiling May 31 at Richmond Hood Co.): A collaboration with Christina Werkmeister Design, Richmond Hood Co., and 10 local artists, turning concrete sneakers into art pieces. The Solid Kicks will be on view at the CONCRETE CONCRETE exhibition.
Concrete Guitar Collaboration with DiMarzio: A fully playable, one-of-a-kind electric guitar encased in concrete was created in collaboration with legendary Staten Island pickup makers DiMarzio. It will make its debut — and be played live — at the opening reception.
- Concrete Robots Workshop (May 17 @ Art Lab): A workshop where local kids created a concrete robot sculpture, now displayed as part of the exhibit, and painted their concrete robots to take home.
- Mix + Pour Workshop (TBD): A hands-on workshop for adults offering participants the chance to mix and craft their concrete pieces.
Concrete Concrete is made possible by a 2024 DCLA Art Fund Grant from Staten Island Arts, with public funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
