Pencil & Charcoal Art Exhibit & Auction
Artist Bio
Abdel Gerard, also known as T-Atis, began his artistic journey at the age of seven in his hometown of Hinche, Haiti. Inspired by his father, also an artist, Abdel watched as his dad sold artwork to locals to fund Abdel’s education. Despite his father’s wishes for him to become a doctor or engineer, Abdel followed his passion for art, determined to show that his creativity could support both himself and his community.
From his home in Hinche, Abdel dedicates up to 10 hours a day to his craft, creating photo-like portraits in an environment enriched by family and music. His artistic process is deeply spiritual; he connects profoundly with his subjects, immersing himself in their histories by listening to their stories and music. “My aim with each piece is to make these figures come alive, as though they are standing right in front of you,” he says.
Abdel’s art has reached audiences across the globe, including in the United States, France, Haiti, Jamaica, and Canada. He aspires to pay it forward by using the proceeds from his artwork to provide local children with educational opportunities and a brighter future. He lives with his wife, Sadeline, and their son, Skydensky.
