Exhibition “Jenesis: The Original Abstraction”

Jenesis showcases a collection of artworks crafted in the past year, portraying Jeena Raghavan’s internal journey and occasional struggles to find her place in New York. This series delves into the exploration of color and intricate patterns, portraying Jeena’s profound connection with various self-images through figurative visual language and abstract layering. Functioning as a sequence of ’self-portraits,’ each painting narrates a pivotal experience as Jeena adapts to the fast-paced environment while holding onto her Indian heritage. Her artistic technique serves as a visual diary, reflecting her personal encounters and upbringing in both England and India. Balancing Western techniques and materials with nuanced Indian motifs, she creates a composition that challenges her sense of confinement, allowing her to carve out her identity in New York. Vibrant hues trace her visual journey through the city’s intricate layers. The fusion of abstraction with relatable figures provides viewers with an engaging opportunity to establish their connections and interpretations of the young artist’s genesis.

Originally from England, Jeena Raghavan spent her early years in India before embarking on her artistic journey in New York. Having held her first art exhibition in London at the age of 13, Jeena has showcased her art in Mumbai and New York, gaining recognition in India, Singapore, the USA, and the UK. Recently graduating with a BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York, this marks her inaugural solo exhibition in the city.
