Exhibition “Framing the Female Gaze: Women Artists and the New Historicism”

If you are interested in exploring how contemporary women artists reinterpret and challenge the historical representations of women by male artists, you might want to attend the Tour exhibition, Framing the Female Gaze: Women Artists and the New Historicism 17 Dec in NYC. This tour will guide you through the works of 45 women artists who draw inspiration from the French 19th-century masters, such as Jacques-Louis David, Edouard Manet, and Pablo Picasso, but transform and critique them from their perspectives.

The tour will include:

  • An introduction to the concept of the female gaze and the new historicism, and how they relate to the exhibition’s theme and curatorial vision.
  • A discussion of the various artistic strategies and techniques that women artists use to challenge, subvert, or reclaim the male gaze, such as parody, appropriation, collage, and self-portraiture.
  • A close examination of some of the highlights of the exhibition, such as the works by Guerrilla Girls, Mickalene Thomas, Deborah Kass, and Cindy Sherman, and how they reference and reinterpret the works by the male masters, such as The Death of Marat, Olympia, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, and Girl Before a Mirror.

The Tour of the exhibition, Framing the Female Gaze: Women Artists and the New Historicism on 17 Dec in NYC will be a fascinating and enlightening way to experience some of the best contemporary women’s art in the city.
