About the artist:
Roy Clement is a Haitian artist based in New York. Art has always been a haven and a form of therapy for Roy and created a path to his profession as he became a licensed Art Therapist. His work continues to evolve over the years but one thing that remains the same is the focus on people and the emotions expressed through art. His signature is an homage to his late aunt who helped him find his voice and self-expression through art at a young age in Haiti. This work series features graphite and charcoal portraits that embodies Black Beauty through Haitian Folklore. Haitian folklore is usually seen through a cloud of ambiguity or negative light. This series explores Haitian folklore through a modernized look, capturing Black Essence & Beauty. These portraits are an interpretation of what a modern-day version of these famous folkloric personalities would look like. Roy invites you on a journey to examine your perspective, ideas, imagination and relationships with Haitian Folklore.
