Art Exhibition + Augmented Reality — Postcards from the Abstracted Universe

Studio 34 Gallery is proud to present “Postcards from the Abstract(ed) Universe”, a solo exhibition of Queens-inspired abstract paintings and animations by Sandra Vucicevic, a recipient of the 2023 Flushing Town Hall Grant. The exhibition showcases the artist’s unique vision of the vibrant borough, as she transforms photographs of Queens landmarks such as the Unisphere and the Flushing Meadows Corona Park into colorful and dynamic compositions.

The paintings are based on images taken by local photographers who share a connection to Queens, either as their home or place of work. The exhibition displays the original photos alongside the abstract paintings they inspired, creating a contrast and a conversation between realism and abstraction. The visitors are invited to explore the abstract(ed) universe of Queens and to discover new perspectives and meanings in familiar places. The show also offers an Augmented Reality experience, where the visitors can interact with the paintings using their smartphones and tablets.

Paintings + Animations by Sandra Vucicevic. Photographers: Ken Jones, Teresa Hull, Bryan Sans, Marianna Olshtein, Sasa Prokic and Nikola Vucicevic. AR by www.CreativeSmart.rs. Music: Helena Lola — piano; Berkeley 2+2 — Jazz (piano +trumpet)

This project is supported by the Statewide Community Regrant program, a program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature and administered by Flushing Town Hall.
