Opening Reception: José-Ricardo Presman & Norman Rosenblum

Amos Eno Gallery, a non-profit artist collective in Bushwick, Brooklyn, is pleased to present All’s Legitimate Under the Sun, the 24th solo exhibit by long-time gallery member José-Ricardo Presman.

The artist’s work consists of black and white paper silhouettes of physical poses, exercises and stretches that parallel the occulted chronology of the universe, in essence re-creating a mini-universe using the physical human body as intermediary. The exhibition is punctuated by a silhouette of the Sanskrit AUM symbol seen from a new perspective.

“Research of the complexity of the universe, including results of higher forms of consciousness, has been an interest of mine during my entire adult life,” Presman said. "The silhouettes provide stark contrast and simplicity to a complex subject matter where a viewer’s interpretations may flow freely. A consequence of the vastness involved is that I use different styles and mediums depending on my subject matter. Each solo show looks different from any previous show.“

A related video presentation on the correlation between artistic creativity and the 4th dimension will be featured on social media.

Concurrently, Remains by Norman Rosenblum will be on view in The Project Space. Presman specifically chose the photographer, who it turns out was his first college roommate, to exhibit in tandem. “Rosenblum’s photographic images add a prerequisite tranquility and stillness necessary as a starting point to a higher consciousness,” Presman said.

Rosenblum photographed these images on a Catskill lake on July 10, 2021, while maneuvering a solo kayak. The photographs attempt to depict a world where there is inevitable decay and constant renewal, which is at once hopeless and magnificent.

“I am inspired to find new meanings in the urban landscapes and natural world that surround us,” Rosenblum says. “My photographs reflect my interpretation of the social and aesthetic realms of human experience.”

Presman met Rosenblum on their first day of college when they were assigned to be roommates. In the many years since they have lost touch and reconnected several times. Presman saw some of these same photos on display in a coffee shop in Montclair, NJ, last November. Presman later invited Rosenblum to exhibit in conjunction with his solo exhibition because he felt the two bodies of work complemented each other.

About Amos Eno Gallery

Amos Eno Gallery has been a fixture in the New York art scene since 1974 when it opened in Soho. It has moved with changing arts neighborhoods over the years to land at its current space at 56 Bogart St. in Brooklyn, across from Morgan Ave. L train stop. The gallery is open Thursdays through Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. and is run by a small community of professional artists, both from New York City and across the country, and a part-time director.
