Where History Meets the Present: Local Artist Exhibition, Hallock Homestead

The Rocky Point Historical Society & Museum presents “Where History Meets the Present” an art exhibition and sale on the grounds of The Noah Hallock Homestead.

A curated collection of sculptures by Rocky Point Artist Temima Gezari will be the featured exhibition in our South Parlor. Temima is fondly remembered for the open house exhibits she hosted every summer up until a few years before her passing in 2009 at the age of 103. One of her sculptures is on display in the park behind Tilda’s Bakery.

A pioneering young woman for her time, Temima drove across the country in a Model A Ford, spending summers painting in Taos, New Mexico, and Mexico. She also traveled alone to Paris, Egypt, and eventually, Palestine studying, making, and teaching art. In 1933, Diego Rivera befriended and mentored Temima while he was painting his mural at Rockefeller Center.

Temima married Zvi Gezari in 1938 and they built a house and sculpture studio in Rocky Point. Zvi had a successful career as an industrial engineer; he was also an amateur astronomer who, in 1953, built a telescope for Albert Einstein.

The Rocky Point area is still a home and inspiration for artists today! A collection of local artists will be displaying and selling their works on the grounds of the Homestead. Media include paintings, hand-made pottery, ceramics, hand-blown glass, and photography.

The house and gardens will be open for tours throughout the day.
