Hate Crimes Prevention Art Project Exhibit Opening
This year commemorates the 17th successful year of the OCA-NY Hate Crimes Prevention Art Project. A youth-based leadership initiative, this Project convenes young people from across NYC to raise awareness about hate crimes and use art as an empowerment tool to combat hate and discrimination. Teenage interns in our project decide the theme of the contest, pitch the contest to youth citywide, judge the art submissions, and plan for the opening of the exhibit. OCA-NY has led the Hate Crimes Prevention Art Project for 16 years, planting seeds in local communities by giving young people tools to engage their peers in healthy dialogue about sensitive topics and promote a more inclusive society.
