Lehman College 2023 Thesis Exhibition Opening Reception
The Lehman College Art Department is pleased to announce the 2023 Annual Thesis Exhibition for graduating M.F.A., M.A., and B.F.A. students, on view May 18 through June 2, with an opening reception on Wednesday, May 17, from 5-8 p.m.
The two members of the MA/MFA thesis class of 2023, Neve Pagan and Caitlin Stolarski Teague, are both presenting works that in their own way address themes of memory and family history: Neve’s acrylic paintings depict landscapes from her native Puerto Rico that weave cultural, historical, and personal elements together, while Caitlin’s watercolors explore her relationship to her female ancestry and how these ties tell a story of empowerment and strength.
The BFA class of 2023 is proud to present their efforts, which represent the culmination of their individual thesis interests and the endeavor to create works that will have meaningful resonance for the rest of their lives. In a post-pandemic landscape, works presented here are preoccupied with the following themes: fantasy, human tragedy, futurism, nostalgia, the post-apocalypse, transgression, morality, overwhelming feelings, novelty, comfort, wild imagination, reflections, geometric abstraction, nature, the conditions of being a woman, ageism, societal viewpoints, inherited cultural norms and their impact on contemporary history, the built environment and an attempt to look at the world in new ways.
