Lehman College Art Gallery and The New York Latin American Art Triennial present its 2022 edition, celebrating the incredible range of works presented by local, national and international artists from Latin American backgrounds, coming together under the theme and title “Abya Yala: Structural Origins”. NYLAAT 2022 examines the various processes and forms of creation inspired by traditional ideas, materials and concepts during the different stages of cultural and intellectual growth in the American continent. This project explores the inevitable repercussion that past generations have on the aesthetic, cultural or social values present in contemporary art in Latin America today. Presenting 20 artists from more than a dozen countries, the presentation at Lehman College Art Gallery establishes the link between contemporary art on the continent and the premeditated use of materials, elements and forms of expression by the first inhabitants of this region.
