Small Things That Hold the City Together: Art Show Opening

This art show opening is for everyone who feels like the smallest screw in the city.

A city is not held up by skyscrapers alone. It is held together by screws.

In this new work, artist Zhiyi Zhang enlarges overlooked pieces of hardware, such as hinges, nails, screws, and joints, and turns them into large-scale installations. These objects are small, ordinary, and easy to replace, yet they quietly maintain the structure around us. They are usually noticed only when a door becomes loose, a wall begins to crack, or something starts to break.

The work also speaks to many people who work every day. We clock in, answer messages, meet deadlines, and move from one task to another. Sometimes we feel like small parts inside a larger system, yet we are still holding something together.

What would these unnoticed, useful little things become if they had souls and came alive?

For this opening, you are invited to see these enlarged, silent, and persistent objects. Perhaps they are speaking for us.
