Exhibition “Vital Forms”
Textile Art Gallery NYC is pleased to present Vital Forms, a group exhibition featuring six artists whose work expands contemporary understanding of what textile art can be.
On view June 2–27, 2026, Vital Forms brings together artists working across sculpture, abstraction, installation, and mixed media, united by a shared conviction that cloth is capable of far more than most people assume.
The exhibition opens in dialogue with Jennifer Fons’ concurrent solo exhibition Hiraeth, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience multiple distinct approaches to contemporary textile art simultaneously.
Featured artists include Sandra Giunta, Susan Else, Sherri Lipman McCauley, Carol Paik, Émilie Trahan, and Lenny van Eijk.
Working in strikingly different visual languages:
- Sandra Giunta constructs intricate sculptural ecosystems inspired by coral reefs and living organisms.
- Susan Else creates figurative textile sculptures that combine wit, narrative, and reflections on mortality and everyday life.
- Sherri Lipman McCauley transforms hundreds of collected coffee cozies into a suspended installation that elevates the discarded and overlooked.
- Carol Paik works with repurposed textiles and found materials, exploring tensions between the domestic and the cosmic.
- Émilie Trahan creates layered botanical abstractions alive with colour, movement, and organic energy.
- Lenny van Eijk presents bold large-scale abstractions defined by biomorphic form and commanding spatial presence.
Together, these artists make a compelling case for the continued evolution and relevance of textiles within contemporary art.
