“Savage Gardens” — A solo exhibition by Brittany Fanning

Guy Hepner is pleased to present “Savage Gardens”, a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist, Brittany Fanning.

Entering the world of “Savage Gardens” the viewer is immediately greeted with vibrant hues of flora and fauna radiating with purpose and energy. The landscapes are hybrids of Florida swamps and Georgian mountains- which, oddly enough, are almost distinctly Californian: an homage to Fanning’s surroundings both past and present.

A thinly veiled, wry sense of humor has permeated Fanning’s work throughout her career — and these works are no exception. Looking past the obvious, the viewer should see both Fanning’s strong affection towards the freedom of wildlife and her disillusionment with humanity. The gardens are remnants of a civilized world, including lawn chairs, tennis rackets, Porsches, and full-on dinner spreads left untouched.

A closer look reveals that an event has just occurred, perhaps something cataclysmic — and unbridled nature is beginning to regain power over these previously curated and manicured spaces. These man-made facades of nature crumble with unpredictability and chaos lurks behind the scenes.
