In this free lecture, open to the public, author Nancy Koester explores the compelling story of Harriet Beecher Stowe, a woman who dared to tell the truth about slavery, the subject of Koester’s book Harriet Beecher Stowe: A Spiritual Life.
Harriet Beecher Stowe’s 1852 novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, converted thousands to the anti-slavery cause. It also won her fierce enemies and harsh critics. Using fiction based on fact, Stowe exposed slavery as a system based on lies, driven by greed, and enforced by cruelty. Her protest novel became the bestseller of the century. More than mere entertainment, this was a cry for justice.
This lecture is free and open to the public.
