Directed by Penny Marshall, “A League of Their Own” is a sports comedy-drama inspired by the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), formed during World War II when male players were drafted. The film follows sisters Dottie (Geena Davis) and Kit (Lori Petty), who are recruited to play in the newly founded women’s league. Under the reluctant management of washed-up coach Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), the Rockford Peaches navigate the challenges of professional sports, sibling rivalry, and societal skepticism about women athletes. Balancing humor and heart, the movie celebrates perseverance, teamwork, and the trailblazing women who proved they belonged on the field.
