Join us for at Theaterlab in New York City for Together//Apart, an improvised dance performance by two humans and a mobile manipulator robot. Together//Apart creates dynamic interactions between humans and machines, questioning how we co-exist in space, using positioning in space as a poetic device. What happens when we share intimate space with machines? What does it mean for a machine to keep its distance from us? How does the audience interact with this space and the performers to extend their understanding of our robots, how they can move, and how they move with us?

Through live coding, real-time projections, and a bespoke sensing system, the choreographer can send instructions for spatial patterns to both dancers and robots in real time. The performers (both human and robot) respond to each other, shifting from leader to follower, changing formation to formation, attracting and repelling from each other in the space.
