Webinar “Setting Up a Sound Wall for Early Learners: Get Started Now!”

Published: February 20, 2023; Aithor: Julia Sonrisa

When: March 1, 2023

If you’re thinking about implementing a sound wall but are not sure how to get started, this informative, applicable edWebinar will walk you through what you need to know and why. Literacy and sound wall experts Dr. Mary Dahlgren and Rhonda Ayers — both respected teaching and literacy professionals from Tools 4 Reading—will share the basics of setting up and implementing a sound wall.

This session will illustrate the need and purpose of having a sound wall in the classroom, including how sound walls support the Science of Reading. Research validates that reading is a process that requires knowing the sounds and the print; a sound wall is a pathway to make sense of how print represents those sounds.

This edWebinar will be of interest to PreK-3 teachers and school leaders. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

About the Presenters

Since founding Tools 4 Reading in 2010, Dr. Mary Dahlgren has focused on developing practical tools and training opportunities to bridge the gap between the Science of Reading and classroom practice. These tools include Kid Lips™ and the Kid Lips™ Instructional Guide, Sound Wall Solutions™, Phoneme/Grapheme Cards, and sound wall classes. Dr. Dahlgren has over 25 years of experience in the field of education, having served as a dyslexia therapist, elementary classroom teacher, international literacy consultant, and author. Additionally, Dr. Dahlgren served as a national LETRS trainer for 18 years until her retirement in December 2021.

Dr. Dahlgren’s longstanding interest in early childhood and elementary education has compelled her to spend much of her career working directly with classroom teachers to embrace the science behind reading. She provides training on how to provide the best first instruction along with the implementation of effective interventions for struggling readers.

Rhonda Ayers is a literacy consultant with a passion for empowering teachers with knowledge, skills, and strategies for teaching students to read. She earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. She is an experienced educator with over 29 years of experience in the field of education. Rhonda has served as a classroom teacher for grades K-3, a local- and district-level reading coach, an adjunct instructor for Troy University College of Education, and an Alabama Reading Initiative Regional Literacy Specialist. In addition to being a Tools 4 Reading consultant, Rhonda is a former national LETRS facilitator and remains a certified Dyslexia Awareness Trainer for the state of Alabama.
