GMT aims to deliver better outcomes for children and young people and their families.
Does your loved one seem exhausted, overwhelmed, or unable to cope in the way they usually can? Autistic burnout is a very real experience, affecting many autistic individuals when life’s demands exceed their capacity to cope over a prolonged period. It is often misunderstood, overlooked, or mislabelled as depression, anxiety, or behavioural change.
In this session, you will learn what autistic burnout is, how it presents, and why it happens. We will explore the impact of masking, sensory overload, chronic stress, and unmet needs, and discuss how autistic burnout can affect daily life, functioning, and mental health. You will gain supportive strategies to reduce overwhelm, promote recovery, and make sustainable adjustments at home, school, and in daily routines to protect wellbeing and prevent future burnout.
Would you like to chat with other parents and carers who are going through similar experiences and share ideas and strategies?
