This webinar, brought to you by Evolve Skills Academy & Evolve Psychology, is hosted by Rachel Wagget, a Neurodevelopmental Specialist.
This introductory webinar will help you recognise demand avoidance, understand the anxiety that often drives it, and begin to think about strategies to support this that can make a real difference in the classroom.
The webinar will consist of a 30-minute presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session, allowing attendees to ask any questions or clarify any of the content covered during the webinar.
This webinar is aimed at:
This free webinar is designed for SENCos, teachers, pastoral teams, and school leaders who want to develop a clearer understanding of demand avoidance in educational settings.
Description
Many pupils who struggle with demands in school are often misunderstood as oppositional, non-compliant, or “choosing not to engage.” In reality, demand avoidance is often rooted in anxiety, overwhelm, and a genuine difficulty managing everyday expectations.
You may work with children and young people who regularly resist, avoid, negotiate, mask, or shut down in response to everyday demands. This webinar will give your team valuable insight into understanding these behaviours and responding in a more supportive and effective way.
Written by our clinicians with real-world experience, this practical session will help you recognise what demand avoidance can look like in the classroom, understand what may be driving it, and explore supportive, evidence-informed approaches that can make an immediate difference.
