Webinar “Public Involvement in Digital Research with Older Adults”

Published: May 27, 2026; Aithor: Julia Sonrisa

When: Tomorrow

How can researchers move beyond traditional models of public participation, building meaningful partnerships with older adults as co-producers of digital research?

Join the British Society of Gerontology Technology & Ageing Special Interest Group for a free online webinar with two researchers sharing concrete approaches to inclusive public involvement in digital health research with older adults.

Dr Michelle Heward (Bournemouth University) will discuss ways to meaningfully involve older adults not only as research participants but as active partners. Drawing on her work in the UK, she will describe an inclusive model that elevates older people’s voices and lived experiences, supporting their transition from participants to co-researchers, and will reflect on practical considerations for consultation and co-design.

Dr Ríona Mc Ardle (Newcastle University) will discuss approaches to involving people with lived experience of age-related neurodegenerative conditions, such as dementia and Parkinson’s disease, in digital health research. Drawing on examples from her work in the UK, Europe, and Africa, she will cover consultation, public-and-patient involvement, and co-design methods, highlighting considerations needed to ensure these are inclusive of underserved groups and people with cognitive impairment.

Each presentation will be followed by audience Q&A and discussion.

This webinar is open to researchers, students, industry partners, colleagues working across the health and social care sector, and anyone with an interest in inclusive research with older adults. New members of the SIG are warmly welcomed; please email BSGtechnologySIG@britishgerontology.org to join.
