About (Un)Natural Habitats: Gowanus

Group Exhibition: Jessica Dalrymple, Miska Draskoczy, Michael James Freedman, Janice McDonnell, curated by Grace R. Freedman, Why Not Art

Gowanus is undergoing rapid change, yet the natural world endures. Wild flora and fauna take root in the cracks and seams of the neighborhood, surviving against the odds. The artists in this exhibition present works that document and celebrate the vitality of this dynamic landscape. The show explores the tension between ecological survival and urban transformation.

As we imagine what Gowanus might become, these artworks invite us to reflect on the resilience of nature— and of ourselves — within the built environment. Even in the densest urban settings, nature remains essential.
