Published: January 6, 2024; Aithor: Julia Sonrisa

When: January 13, 2024
Where: High Bridge

Address: 173rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10032, United States

The High Bridge reopened as a walkway in the summer of 2015 after a renovation. Join Bryan Diffley, the Project Manager of the renovation, for a tour of NYC’s oldest standing bridge. An engineering treasure, it was built in 1848 to bring water from the Bronx into Manhattan via the Croton Aqueduct.

The High Bridge remained in use for the Croton system until December 1958. Its deck was used as a pedestrian bridge until the 1970s when it was closed due to vandalism. The city began restoring the bridge in 2012.
